Elimination of VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN & girls

Tomorrow’s Women held our annual event to end Violence Against Women & Girls (VAWG).

The event is crucial in highlighting the shocking rates of VAWG whereby women everyday are subjected to violence including domestic abuse, sexual violence, street harassment, stalking and harassment, and more.

We held our usual annual event in Wirral on 25th November and our Chester event on 26th November.

The event at Tomorrow’s Women Wirral took an interactive approach with activities, videos and gaining valuable feedback from the women to ensure that their voices are heard on these topics.

The event was opened by Emily Spurrell, Merseyside Police & Crime Commissioner who discussed the work that has been put into the VAWG strategy over the past year.

We welcomed a number of fantastic speakers including a poet, professionals, and women survivors telling their empowering stories.

The women were treated to an afternoon tea style lunch and TW Creative Group performed a moving original song and spoken word piece.

We had also had stalls from support services including:

  • RASA Merseyside

  • Merseyside Police

  • Lighthouse Centre

  • Wirral Domestic Abuse Hub

Our Chester centre held their event at Northgate Church in Chester, welcoming both male and female professionals, including the Lord Mayor of Chester who officially opened the event.

The event was interactive, taking time for discussions, opinions and feedback on topics such as what can we done to make women feel and be safer. We also had a fantastic speaker sharing her inspirational story of how she overcame adversity, and one of our placement studies share how she had a law changed in Uganda in order to keep women safer.

The event also officially launched the VAWG board within Cheshire West & Chester which encourages professionals to come together to create meaningful change.

change the story

We are thrilled to announce the release of our charity single, Change The Story. Written by our Empowerment Advisor Emma and featuring a number of our women and partners as well as Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner Emily Spurrell, this powerful song highlights the pressing need to unite and change the story to end violence against women & girls.

The song challenges harmful behaviours and highlights the importance of society coming together to change the story. Silence is no longer an option. The song also features two 17-year-old male rappers from Pilgrim Street’s Creative Youth Development Rap Group, powerfully reinforcing the role of boys and men in holding each other accountable and speaking out.

Reclaim the night

Some of the staff attended the Reclaim the Night march in Chester, hosted by Chester Sexual Abuse Services on the 10th November, marching in solidarity and remembering those women who have been killed when 'just walking home'.
