Recovery Month - September 2025
September is National Recovery Month. A time to raise awareness, challenge stigma and celebrate anyone who has recovered from addictive behaviours. We also celebrate improvements made by those who are managing other health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and heart disease. Last year in the UK, ‘there were 8,758 alcohol related deaths, an age-standardised rate of 14.2 deaths per 100,000 population.’ However, in turn, there has been a 7% increase in adults who are in contact with drug and alcohol treatment, half of which have recovered well. Achievements like this is what makes Recovery Month so important as it reminds people that recovery is very possible.
Here at Tomorrow’s Women, we offer a range of support to help anyone struggling during, or even after, Recovery Month. At our Wirral centre, we host an Alcohol and Drug Awareness Group every Wednesdays for women to come in and talk about any issues they face with substance abuse. We also hold a five-week course called Alcohol and Me, an alcohol awareness programme for women who may have concerns about their drinking habits. The course takes women through the different types of alcohol drinking, helping them gain a better understanding of their own habits and if they are turning into an alcohol problem. It teaches women to be aware of themselves and to make conscious changes, whilst also providing the tools to manage their problems in a preventative rather than reactive way. Our course is subject to our timetable and only runs every so often, so keep an eye out. We also work closely with local drug and alcohol support services which we can signpost you to. If you or someone you know is struggling with drugs and/or alcohol, please reach out, we are here for you.
